Steve Fagan, a veteran of distribution and marketing of independent, specialized and foreign films founded Sky Island Films, Inc. in 2003 with the express purpose of marketing and distributing specialized foreign language and American independent films that might not otherwise find their way to the US theatrical market.
Mr. Fagan has distributed films for such diverse companies as New World Pictures, Cannon Releasing, M.C.E.G. Distribution, MK2 Productions USA, Arrow Entertainment and Artistic License Films during his career.
Successful releases he has handled since 1978 include: THE TIN DRUM, BREAKER MORANT, ROCK & ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, FITZCARRALDO, WHEN FATHER WAS AWAY ON BUSINESS, BARFLY, RUNAWAY TRAIN, THE ASSAULT, LA BELLE NOISEUSE, SOFIE, MY LIFE'S IN TURNAROUND, 301-302, BANDIT QUEEN, PONETTE, UNDER THE SKIN, AFTERLIFE, REGRET TO INFORM, COTTON MARY, SOUND AND FURY and THE TASTE OF OTHERS.
Since 2001, Mr. Fagan has worked as a distribution and marketing consultant to independent film companies and producers. His corporate clients have included Artistic License Films, Regent Entertainment, Palm Pictures, Arthouse Films, Oceanside Pictures, Streetlight Films, Urbanworld Films, Manhattan Pictures International, Holedigger Studios, ADV Films, First Look Media, First Independent Pictures, Newmarket Films, Screen Media Ventures, City Lights Pictures and Emerging Pictures.

Currently, Sky Island is working with First Independent Pictures on the release of BIG FAN-a black comedy starring well known stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt as an obsessed New York Giants football fan. The film premiered at this year’s Sundance film Festival to tremendous critical response from THE NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES TIMES as well as other prestigious national newspapers.
Sky Island is also a theatrical consultant to Regent Releasing. In that capacity, the company is helping to license Regent’s wide array of films to theaters around the country. These releases include the Japanese film DEPARTURES—which won this year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Sky Island has had a successful national release of its own acquisition-the critically acclaimed Philippine film-SMALL VOICES.
